Agenda
This is a five-day, four-night adventure!
Day 1: Kick off your adventure by meeting your fellow explorers in Fairbanks. Once loaded in our professionally charted passenger van, we’ll hit the road on the legendary Dalton Highway. You’ll witness the Arctic landscape transform as we travel through a land rich with history. We’ll make scenic, landmark, stops and enjoy lunch as we head towards Wiseman, AK.
In Wiseman, we’ll unload our gear and take a short 1-mile (about 25-minute) walk to our hillside cabins at Arctic Hive. Once we arrive, you’ll get settled in, explore the property, and meet your remaining guides. You’ll have four guides joining you on this trip: our very own Rove Co team and the passionate owners of Arctic Hive, all eager to share their Alaska expertise.
The day wraps up with a group dinner in the main lodge, where we’ll plan the adventures that await tomorrow.
Day 2-4: Get ready to immerse yourself in Arctic adventure via Nordic skiing. You’ll soak in mind-blowing views of Arctic rivers and mountains bordering Gates of the Arctic. Our three days on-site will be packed with exploring terrain few have ever laid eyes on, learning the ropes of backcountry travel, and soaking up the wild beauty of the area.
And it’s not all skiing—options for daily snowshoeing and yoga sessions will be available. Plus, you’ll get to dive into the rich history of Wiseman through a local’s one-of-a-kind museum, brimming with fascinating artifacts collected over the years. No matter how you spend your time, you’ll be guided through some of the wildest landscapes on the planet.
And when it comes to fueling your adventures, we’ve got you covered. Each delicious meal is whipped up right on-site. When we’re not on the trails, we’ll hang out in the main igloo lodge. With its glass ceiling offering unbeatable views of the terrain and Northern Lights, it’s the perfect spot to relax.
Day 5: We’ll kick off our final day by packing up our gear and enjoying a hearty, relaxed breakfast, taking a moment to savor our final views of the Arctic. Once we're fueled up and ready, we’ll board our chartered van for the drive back to Fairbanks.
But don’t think the adventure is over just yet! We’ll have time to relish in the last 4 days of adventure as we make our way back. If time and weather is on our side, we might even take a quick scenic detour north on the Dalton Highway, treating ourselves to one last round of spectacular views that’ll make the final stretch of our journey just as epic as the rest.
The accommodations don’t get better than this in the Arctic!
More On Lodging
Four nights of accommodation will be at The Arctic Hive, a stunning off-grid wilderness retreat, giving up close experiences to some of the most impressive views Alaska has to offer. There are three 12x12 cabins with mountain views in every direction, and plenty of windows to see the wild landscape and the northern lights! Each cabin has varying size beds. Two cabins have one full and one twin with an additional pullout. The 3rd cabin has one queen bed and one twin. All three cabins have one loft-style bed. With just seven spots available, two cabins will host two guests each, and the third will accommodate three.
The cabins stay toasty thanks to Swedish Nordic oil stoves and have solar/battery-powered lighting, so you can keep small devices charged. Cell phone reception is inconsistent and should not be counted on; we’ve got emergency service and a way for you to check in with home if needed.
For bathrooms, you’ll have a composting outhouse, cleaned daily, plus a few “facili-trees” in the woods. Don’t worry if you’re new to these setups—our team will give you the lowdown when we arrive!
What to expect prior to leaving for your adventure
Before our trip, you’ll have the chance to join two optional prep sessions. First up, we’ll do a gear check where we’ll go over recommendations and answer any questions you might have. Then, we’ll hold a ski waxing and care class to get you ready for those Arctic trails.
And if you’re itching to polish up your skiing skills before the trip, Rove Co offers free XC ski meetups to help you feel prepared. Let’s make sure you’re geared up and ready for an unforgettable Arctic adventure!

FAQs
What kind of skiing will take place on this trip?
This is a nordic or XC ski trip. No downhill skiing will take place. A classic ski setup is sufficient but you are welcome to bring a back country xc ski setup should you prefer. We aim to have trails packed down for us ahead of time for travel, although sometimes weather can ruin that overnight. In this case, classic xc skis still work for the trip. it is expensive to have multiple ski setups, the idea of this trip is to show you what’s possible with only one setup and expand on the xc ski meetups Rove Co hosts all winter in various Alaska communities. Reach out if you have further questions about this.

What’s the weather forecast?
The Arctic Circle can mean chilly temps, so we’ll make sure you’re all set with the right gear for exploring in colder conditions. But don't fret, March in the Arctic is famous for those ideal and warm, sunny days we all want to ski in!
The weather can vary from below zero to above freezing temperatures. The key is having adequate layers for being outside and a packing list will be sent to you once you register. Please note we can’t control mother nature and northern light sightings are not guaranteed.
What about daylight?
Return of the sun in Wiseman is impressive this time of year and you can expect daylight to last more than 11 hours.
Who can go?
Rove Co is a co-ed community and as a result, this trip is open to co-ed adults, 18 years and up. Please note the cabins have limited privacy and we work hard to accommodate everyone who wants to attend. People do register alone and will get paired with others who register alone. We will be spending full days outside. Endurance levels for moving and standing long periods of times are required. You will need the ability to squat, climb/descend a loft ladder, get up from the snow and be able to carry a pack with supplies/food. It is advised you feel comfortable with walking 4 miles a day. You do not need extensive nordic skiing experience for this trip, but you should have used nordic skis a handful of times and be ready to cover at least 4 miles a day. If you have concerns about your ski experience for this trip, please reach out with any questions. The range of skill level on previous trips has been across the board, don’t count yourself out!!

What should I bring?
A list of gear needed will be emailed to you. Snow shoes will be provided but your nordic ski gear will not be. Aside from your outdoor gear, bring clothing that will be comfortable to wear when indoors. Please note that if you arrive with improper gear, for safety reasons, you will not be allowed to join us on our adventures away from the cabins. To avoid this happening, we will have scheduled time before the adventure to answer questions and go over your gear. Rove Co will have all emergency communication and navigation devices needed. Bringing any specific snacks or drinks you want is encouraged.
What are the details for the optional in-person meetings prior to the trip?
There are two meetings that will occur in Fairbanks prior to the trip. One will be for going over the packing list and gear prep. This is to hash out any questions you have about clothing and ensure your confidence in having correct cold weather gear. Date and time for this will be provided to you at a later date. If the scheduled date and time does not work for you or you won’t be in Fairbanks during this time, don’t worry, we can accommodate you getting the information you need.
